The School Resource Officer (SRO) Program is a school-based community policing initiative operating on-site. The Police Department and St. Joseph School District fund the program together. The SRO program is central to our juvenile programs. It provides education and fosters consistent, positive interaction with local youth, educators, and parents. It allows us to identify juvenile problems at both the individual and group levels. SROs give investigators, patrol officers, and educators valuable information. Sgt. Kylee Van Meter supervises the SROs.
Junior Police Academy
The police department holds a Junior Police Academy during the summer in hopes to spark an interest for children in starting a career in law enforcement. The week-long academy gives participants the chance to see first hand some of the skills and tools used by officers to investigate and solve crimes.
