Purpose
In 2000, St. Joseph Animal Services began working with a group of volunteers called Friends of the Animal Shelter (FOTAS). The primary goal of the group is to reduce the number of animals euthanized by increasing public awareness of adoptable animals the shelter receives and assisting staff with animal care. FOTAS hosts pet previews and adoption events at various St. Joseph business locations throughout the year. Volunteers also assist staff with pet enrichment activities, dog walking, cat socialization, fostering animals, showing animals to prospective adopters, housekeeping, and many other tasks.
Outreach Programs & Fundraisers
In addition to pet previews and adoption events, the group organizes and runs outreach programs and fundraisers, receiving necessary funds for medical care and adoption specials for shelter animals.
